Province: Balochistan
District: Kalat
Period: Proto Historic
Relative Chronology: 3500 BCE - 1800 BCE
Description: It is a large mound in the Chhappar Valley of Sarawan, 22 km northwest of Kalat City. It was discovered by Beatrice de Cardi in her 1948 explorations in Baluchistan. The site takes its name from a hamlet about a kilometer to the west of the settlement. De Cardi had found quantities of a fine, wheel made red ware; bowls usually about 20-25 cm in diameter, with a knife edge rim, slipped in red and pointed in black. The designs were usually placed inside the bowl at the rim and consisted of small ungulates and stylized hooks. The pottery represented Amri-Nal; Kechi Beg and Togau cultures.
