Kechi Beg

Description: The ancient mound of Kechi Beg is located 8 km away towards south of Quetta city at about 12; km westward of Saryab Road. The site is roughly circular in shape and is surrounded by residential and commercial buildings. The site is measuring 52 m in diameter, whereas its maximum height from ground level is 3.6 m. It was first surveyed by Stain in 1903-04 and again I 1927. Later on, Piggott also visited this site. Fairservis conducted excavations here in 1950-51. As a result of the excavations large number of potshards, plain and painted were collected. Most of the plain ware was made in rough granular paste ranging in colour from reddish, orange to light brown. Usually, the bowls were noticed to be with open mouth and thick walls. A typical Kechi Beg ware Black on buff slip were a kind of proto type found in other sites of Quetta valley and its specimen were also recorded in the sites of northern Baluchistan. On the basis of material collected from the site, it was dated from 3100 BCE to1000 BCE, establishing close affinity with Faiz Muhamamd II and Damb Sadaat I.
