Kuh Batil

Type: Archaeological Site - Settlement
Province: Balochistan
District: Turbat
Period: Historic
Relative Chronology: 2nd Century BCE-2nd Century CE
Description: The ancient dam of Kuh Batil lies on the Tombolo which links the coast to a rocky peninsular platform, parallel with the coast line. The wall of the dam is made up of big blocks of well-cut stones, set in courses (20 to 40 cm in height) and regularly bond-stoned for cohesion with the rubble stone work behind. The dame was first visited by Stein in January 1928 who reports the local tradition which attributes it to the Portuguese occupation 16th-17th century CE. Prof. Valeria Piacentinin suggests that technical features of this monument i.e., works in cut stone are typical of a period which runs from 2nd century BCE to the 2nd century CE.
