Khari Mosque Piun

Description: This mosque is built on a huge rock in the Piun village, on the left bank of Shyok River in the Chorbat valley. According to the locals, this mosque was once part of a large fort complex which existed on the same rock. After the destruction of the fort, the nearby community continued using this mosque. Due to its strategic location, Pakistan Army took control of the mosque in 1981-2. Since then, the army personnel have been using the mosque for prayers and living purposes. The mosque is a single-story structure built on a raised plinth. It is built with local materials, such as stone, wood and mud. The mosque has a small prayer room and a verandah on its eastern side. This verandah is now covered with pieces of sack cloth.
