Jamia Mosque Kharkoo

Description: This mosque sits at top of an elevated location on the left bank of the Shyok River, at the western end of Kharkoo village. The oldest mosque in this village was severely damaged by a destructive flood; the current mosque was built by the local community as a replacement, but at a slightly different location. This mosque consists of a main prayer hall with a verandah on its eastern and southern sides. This verandah is decorated with wooden arches. The mosque is built with a traditional cribbage and cator construction technique, using local materials such as stone, timber and mud.
