Kamal Mosque

Type: Monument - Mosque
Province: Gilgit-Baltistan
District: Nagar
Period: Historic
Relative Chronology: 17th Century CE
Description: Situated on a slightly raised area in Bata-Khun, this mosque was built by Babo Kamal when the local population converted to the Shia Ithna Ashari Islam in the 17th century. The building is very visible from its surrounding areas and bears an impressive appearance. It has a dense and visible horizontally -laid wooden cribbage -and- cator structure. However, interestingly, it does not have a verandah, which is very rare for such a historic mosque in this region. The major construction materials used in its structure are wood, stone and mud mortar. Its door frame and mihrab (niche) are carved with Quranic inscriptions and floral designs respectively.
