Province: Gilgit-Baltistan
District: Hunza
Period: Historic
Relative Chronology: 18th Century CE
Description: Situated next to the historic settlement of Gulmit, this polo ground (168 m long; 21.3 m wide) was built by Mir Nazim Khan, the ruler of Hunza. Gulmit has historically been regarded as the winter capital of the former state of Hunza, as a result of which Hunzas rulers would choose this ground to play polo in. Heavy flooding originating from the Hunza River washed away the old polo ground and the area surrounding it in the mid - 19th century. The ground was, however, later rebuilt.
