Mamurukutz Mosque

Description: This mosque is believed to have been constructed by a man called Mamur, a forefather of the clan of Mamurukuts in the 17th century CE It is built in the tradition of small family mosques, with a single prayer chamber, flanked by a verandah on two sides, and it is located on a high platform of rough and round granite boulders held together by mud. Its walls consist of a timber frame, cribbage and cator, filled in with rubble stone, and set in mud mortar. The exposed timber and its structural and architectural elements are profusely carved in with motifs borrowed from Tibetan, Balti and Kashmiri architectural traditions. Its timber roof has a rotated square structure, and is covered with thick earth held in place by timber fascia boards.
