Type: Monument - Mosque
Province: Gilgit-Baltistan
District: Shigar
Period: Historic
Relative Chronology: 14th-15th Century CE
Description: This mosque is located on top of a hill in Paindo, Wazirpur, and is raised on a stone platform. Previously, the surrounding settlement was also established on the hill, but the residents eventually moved towards building their houses on lower, agricultural lands. The Paindo Mosque has a square-shaped prayer room, measuring 1.8 sq.m., with verandahs on its eastern and southern sides. The mosque was built using a cribbage-and-cator technique of construction. An Astana, a traditional cooking area, and a changrah (communal gathering space) still exist to the west of the mosque.
