Description: In July 1870, during a journey to explore the Pamir plateau, a British explorer was allegedly murdered near Darkot pass in Ghizir (then a princely state). He was found dead under the shade of a tree. On 27 July 1870, his dead body was brought to Gilgit and buried in an orchard. With time the orchard received more burials and it became a Britishers burial place. With time the cemetery had different names: Hayward Garden, Christian Cemetery.
