Sita Ram Temple

Description: This temple is located near Madina Market in Muzaffarabad. This temple has pyramidal Shikara and is square in plan. It has two arched shaped ventilators. It has arches on its four sides while main arches are on its two sides. It has three cusped arches which are rectangular in shape and divided by fluted pilaster with lotus design capital. The panel is decorated with lime plaster in red color having 6 petals with stalk having leaf design. Above arches are present three rectangular panels which are horizontally decorated with Mughal style designs. The pinnacle on the top of the Shikara is now missing. The temple is built with burnt brick masonry having lime surkhi mortar. The chajja is also decorated with parallel design. The fourth corner is decorated with fluted pilaster which is now missing. On both sides of the entrance two vertical panels are present which are fluted plastered. The base has mold like shape having lotus capital. There is illegal construction on the top of the temple which is creating heavy load on its roof. There are paintings of Radha and Krishna in the temple which are now white washed. Temple is 9.3m high, 3.5m wide, 9.01m long. The width of arch is 0.5 m. The entrance is 2.3m high, 1.4m wide and the thickness of wall is 0.79 m. The height of shikara from outside is 10.6 m. The monument belongs to the Dogra Raj of Kashmir.
