Watch Tower east of Muhammad Bin Qasim Mosque at Pir Patho

Type: Monument - Tower
Province: Sindh
District: Thatta
Period: Historic
Relative Chronology: 18th-19th Century CE
Description: This monument looks like a watchtower or lighthouse and is attributed to Muhammad Bin Qasim. Locals of the area believe that this could have been a mosques minaret. Other scholars believe that this tower is a thousand years old. It is 20m high with a 5m diameter and built entirely with burnt bricks. Inside is a staircase that leads to its top. There was once a river at this site which had made Thatta the trade center of Sindh. The tower was built along the river bed to keep a watch at the ships. No certain date could be assigned to its construction, but if it was a lighthouse or watch tower for ships, then it must be quite old and may belong to the early Muslim Period in this area.
