Chargul Dherai Baba

Description: An archaeological site, situated in the District of Mardan and about 10 km west of Shahbaz Garhi on Swabi-Mardan Road. It is almost square in shape, measuring 60.96x76.2 m, with a maximum height of 30.48 m. above the surrounding ground level. The surface of the mound is covered with potshards and broken pieces of steatite stone. Upper surface or top portion of some stone walls are visible on the surface perhaps of some Monastic cells. It is reported that 6-7 years ago stone sculptures along with gold coins were discovered by the treasure hunters. This site is owned by Mr. Asad Ali S/o Yaqub Khan. Chargul Dheri appears to conceal remains of Buddhist period. This site was protected in 1938.
