Province: Punjab

Description: It is a small but beautifully constructed and well maintained Railway station. The monument is located about 39 km west of Burhan Town in Nizampur and can be approached via G.T. Road (Rawalpindi-Peshawar Road)-Nizampur road from Burhan Town. Constructed in 1880, the Attock Khurd Railway Station has a rich history and beautiful architecture. It is located on the bank of the Indus River and the Victorian structure made of stone masonry is surrounded by the Manglot Mountain Range. It is located near the old iron girder bridge built in 1883, which connects Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with Punjab. This bridge is one of the most important strategic and commercial crosses on the Indus between Punjab and KP. It was originally designed by Sir Guildford Moles worth and was opened to traffic on May 24, 1883. The structure was redesigned by Sir Francis Callaghan and was reconstructed in 1929.The bridge has two levels and five spans. The upper level is used for railway traffic and the lower was used for road traffic till a new bridge was made on G.T. Road a few kilometers from the old one. The grand Attock Fort, built by Mughal Emperor Akbar in 1581 CE, is also close by. The railway station has a small but elegantly built building of stone masonry in the typical old British style. It was built in 1883. It is surrounded by small hills which gives it an air of seclusion and remoteness, which increases its attraction. Besides the Victorian Style another attraction of the station is its small museum. That is an added advantage to the tourists. Many old gadgets used in the communication or running of the railways operations, are on display. Among the prominent items is a model of a railway engine.
