Ranjit Singh Summer Residence

Description: The residence stood on the east bank of the Chenab River in a region of Gujranwala that may have been familiar from Ranjit childhood. Then as now, it is fairly isolated, located a few kilometers northeast of the nearby town of Rahul Nagar, and about 50 kilometers NNW of Gujranwala city and Ranjit Singhs birthplace. The house was built of high-quality masonry and plastered, inset with teak wood doors and windows. Sturdy rafters, also made of teak, supported the roof. The core of the house comprised a tall double-height atrium flanked by a several of small rooms and two long verandahs. The overall design was comparable to a rusticated version of the Huzuri Bagh Baradari.
