Samadh of Jhingar Shah Suthra

Description


This Samadh with its other buildings lying adjacent to the northern wall of the Fort is the original and only seat of the sect of the Hindu known as Suthras (pure and true) and it is sacred to a large number of the followers of the sect. Its founder Jahangir Shah was a well revered faqir in the time of Aurangzeb. It is reported that under the order of Aurangzeb he was allowed to collect 3 pies per shop per year in the whole of Mughal Empire. The Samadh is in the form of a marble platform doctored with Petra dura work.
