Murti Hill

Description

Some ancient buildings with sculptures built on Murti Hill now in very bad state of preservation can still be seen. The mound seems to be a much-decayed stupa which has completely lost its facing. The greatest part of the plateau to the east and north of the stupa mound appears to be of a temple. The mound was covered with rough building tomb and fragments of carefully cut slabs of red sand stone some bearing marks of relief decoration. Among the debris over-lye fragments of elaborately carved pieces of red sand stone, all forming parts of architectural decoration such as architraves, brackets, columns etc. All these obviously belonged to the outer ornamentation of the temple. Long before its final vandalism and destruction, the temple of Murti had been plundered to supply sculptural material both for katas and Choa Saidan Shah.
