Katas Raj Temples

Description


It is an enormous complex of 7 temples (Shiv, Ramachandra, Hanuman and Sat-ghara), a holy pool, and a stupa remains, havelis (Braggi and Hari Singh), Samadhis and some caves. It is a sanctified place in Hindu mythology as one tear of Shiv fell at Ajmer Pushkara and the other one at Katas Raj. It is also related to a historical event when Padavas and Kauravas were at war with each other at that time Pandavas fleet and settled at this place. Satgarha temples has Kashmiri style architecture dated back to 8th -10th Century CE. Their characteristic features include trefoil arches, dentils, pointed roofs and fluted pillars. While all the other temples and havelis were erected in 5th -6th Century CE.
