Tomb of Dr. Muhammad Iqbal

Description

A small tomb of Sir Allama Muhammad Iqbal, built in red sandstone in 1951, lies in the south-west corner of Hazuri Bagh, just under the shadow of the high minar of Badshahi mosque, with its slightly battered walls, bold mouldings set in cavetto just above the plinth. The beautiful marble cenotaph with its platform decorated with aragonite panels of different colours and head stone of translucent marble is a gift from the Afghan Government. The headstone on its front is inscribed with two important couplets of the celebrated poet summing up his view against racial and colour distinction, his life-long mission.
