Mound Maryala (Chak No. 167/10R)

Description

An archaeological site covering an area of 1100 sq.m, comprised of an oblong mound with its long axis lying north-south and measuring 106 m, lately converted into a Muslim graveyard. There are traces of remains built in both sun-dried bricks measuring 33 x 22.8 x 12.7 cm and baked bricks of 30.4 x 25.4 x 5 cm size. The large quantity of painted pieces of terracotta lattices lying on the mound indicate their frequent use in the house for ventilation purposes. Pottery pieces noticed included thick rims of flat dishes, open mouthed bowls and handles. Discovery of coins and stone beads was reported and terracotta animals were also found.
