Tomb of Mirza Tughral Beg at Makli Hills

Description


This tomb is a combination of an enclosure with its mihrab wall as well as a canopy tomb. Belonging to a Mughal commander Tughral Baig (d.1679). The mihrab wall carries a lofty arched alcove flanked by two lover arch panels on either side. The canopy on a raised plinth, surmounted by an unusual cupola, has a square plan footprint with 12 free standing columns and the transitional space treated in an innovative manner.
