Brahmanabad (Mansurah)

Description


Mansurah served as the first important stronghold of Muslims in the sub-continent, founded in the first half of the 8th century CE that flourished up to 13th century before its sad demise. The remains are spread over an extensive area of 4 sq.km. It was a fortified city and the fortification wall as it stands today is 6-7.5 m in height from the surrounding ground. The city was well built and its buildings were constructed with burnt bricks, wood and clay. The most significant structures discovered here include the grand mosque and Mehfooza.
