Sami Settlement

Type: Archaeological Site - Settlement
Province: Balochistan
District: Turbat
Period: Proto Historic
Relative Chronology: 3500 BCE - 1800 BCE
Description: The ancient settlement has been identified on the western part of the present-day village of Sami. This ancient site goes farther to the west, between the foot of the hills, to the north, and the upper limit of the oasis, to the south. Many building foundations can be seen, particularly near the village. The eastern part of the site has been disturbed by the recent diggings of Kaur-jo, or irrigation canals, for the water-supply of the oasis. The surface potter bears witness of the long occupation of the site during the protohistoric (Dasht, Shahi Tump, Harappan/Kulli assemblages), Zangian and Islamic Periods.
