Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture, Mr. Aurangzeb Khan Khichi, visited the historic Shah Allah Ditta Caves in Islamabad

Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture, Mr. Aurangzeb Khan Khichi, visited the historic Shah Allah Ditta Caves in Islamabad to review the ongoing conservation and development works aimed at transforming the site into a world-class Buddhist heritage destination. He was accompanied by Parliamentary Secretary for National Heritage and Culture, Ms. Farah Naz Akbar. During the visit, the Project Director of the project and senior officials of the Department of Archaeology and Museums (DOAM) briefed the Minister on the progress of conservation, restoration, and site development activities. The Minister directed the concerned authorities to expedite the ongoing work to ensure its completion ahead of the Gandhara Conference, scheduled to be held in September–October, so that the well preserved heritage site can be formally inaugurated and open for general public during the international event. Highlighting the historical importance of Shah Allah Ditta Caves, the Minister stated that the site represents a significant chapter of Pakistan's rich Buddhist heritage. He emphasized that the Government is committed to preserving and promoting this invaluable cultural asset in accordance with international conservation standards. During the briefing, officials informed the Minister that a historic Buddhist-era stupa is situated on a hillside opposite the caves but remains difficult for visitors to observe due to the distance. To enhance the visitor experience, the Minister directed the installation of a modern telescope, enabling Buddhist monks, researchers and tourists to view the ancient stupa from view point newly established. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Aurangzeb Khan Khichi said that the Prime Minister is taking a keen interest in the preservation, promotion, and international recognition of the Gandhara Heritage. He noted that the development of Shah Allah Ditta Caves reflects the Government's broader vision of safeguarding Pakistan's rich cultural heritage while promoting cultural tourism and international engagement. The Minister further announced that modern visitor facilities, including a cafe, souvenir shop, and other public amenities, will be established to improve services for both domestic and international visitors. In addition, lights will be installed to enhance the site's aesthetic appeal and facilitate for evening visitors.
