Director General of UNESCO, Dr. Khalid El-Enany, visited the Taxila World Heritage Site, where he was received by Dr. Syed Tauqir Hussain Shah, Assistant to the Prime Minister and Representative of Pakistan to the UNESCO Executive Board. During the visit, Dr. El-Enany was briefed on the Taxila Museum, the rich historical legacy of Taxila, and ongoing excavation and conservation efforts aimed at safeguarding the site’s outstanding universal value. The briefing highlighted Pakistan’s continued commitment to the preservation and promotion of its cultural heritage in line with UNESCO standards. Dr. El-Enany also visited the archaeological sites of Bir Mound and Sirkap, where he observed active excavation work. He appreciated the dedication and academic engagement of student archaeologists, acknowledging their role in advancing research and contributing to the sustainable preservation of heritage. Emphasizing the importance of South–South cooperation, Dr. El-Enany underlined the need for enhanced academic collaboration, knowledge exchange, and capacity building in the fields of archaeology and heritage conservation. He reaffirmed UNESCO’s support for collaborative initiatives that strengthen institutional frameworks and promote the protection of cultural heritage across the Global South. The visit underscored the strong partnership between UNESCO and Pakistan in advancing heritage conservation, research, and international cooperation.
