DG, Department of Archaeology & Museums, Delivers Keynote Speech at UNESCO World Heritage Training in Peshawar

Director General, Department of Archaeology & Museums, Government of Pakistan, Mr. Aman Ullah, delivered the keynote address on “Effective World Heritage Strategy for Pakistan” during the Training on World Heritage Site Management, Documentation, and Boundary Delineation, held at the Peshawar Museum from 26 to 29 January 2026. The training program me was jointly organized by the UNESCO Office in Pakistan, the Directorate General of Archaeology & Museums, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and the Ministry of Culture, Government of France. The event focused on strengthening institutional capacities and enhancing technical expertise for the sustainable management and preservation of World Heritage sites in Pakistan. The training focused on key components of the World Heritage Convention, including the preparation of nomination dossiers, adherence to international documentation standards, boundary delineation methodologies, and the development of comprehensive and sustainable site management frameworks in line with UNESCO guidelines. To complement the technical sessions, the program me included field visits to provide practical exposure. Participants undertook an in-depth visit to the World Heritage Site of Takht-i-Bahi, Mardan, followed by visits to Gor Khatri and the historic Sethi House in Peshawar. These visits enabled participants to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world contexts, particularly in heritage assessment, conservation planning, and nomination requirements. The training program me reflects UNESCO’s continued commitment to supporting Pakistan in strengthening institutional capacities and promoting the sustainable conservation, management, and safeguarding of its cultural heritage in accordance with international standards.
