Aga Khan University (AKU) has partnered with the Federal Ministry of National Heritage and Culture to upgrade the National Museum of Pakistan, formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding signed at AKU’s Karachi campus. The ceremony was witnessed by Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture Mr Aurangzeb Khan Khichi, along with senior leadership from AKU, the Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC), and other stakeholders. The partnership aims to strengthen the museum through enhanced curatorial practices, public engagement, and improved collection management, positioning it as a world-class centre for learning and cultural preservation. An Advisory Committee, co-chaired by Professor Anjum Halai, Vice Provost AKU Pakistan, and Mr Aman Ullah, Director General Archaeology and Museums, will oversee the initiative. Under the collaboration, AKU and agencies of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) will provide strategic, technical, and advisory support, bringing together scholars from AKU’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences, the Institute for the Study of Muslim Civilizations (London), and AKU’s Department of Archives. The project reflects a shared commitment to preserving Pakistan’s cultural heritage, promoting education, and fostering national pride and social cohesion through culture and the arts.
